Volunteers

High school students in Ontario have a mandatory volunteer component to their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). We are currently offering volunteer positions for high school students to fulfill their required 40 hours.

Our volunteer activities meet the eligibility requirements in that the positions available to high school students:

  • are performed outside the regular school day (lunch hours, weekends, after school, or school holidays).

  • benefit to the community.

  • support a not-for-profit organization, and may also act to support public sector institutions, and other informal settings.

  • promote learning with the purpose of assisting others in their learning journeys.

  • promote equity and inclusive education which seeks to make a positive contribution in the community.

  • may promote and contribute to the health and well-being of various groups within Ontario.

 Meet our Placement Students!

We were thrilled to host a group of Georgian College students completing their placement in the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology program. From Jan 11 - Feb 15, 2023 they took part in "The Savvy Ally Learning Circle" as they collaboratively took part in reading, learning, and discussing ways to become actively involved in creating safer more equitable and inclusive spaces for the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Noemi Moncayo (She/Her)

I am passionate about creating safer spaces for the LGBTQ2S+ community on Georgian campuses because I believe that when it comes to getting an education, every individual should have the right to learn in an environment where they are comfortable and warmly accepted among the student body and staff.

Ilka Johannessen (She/Her)

Hello! My name is Ilka Johannessen and I am in my third year at Georgian College for my Counselling Psychology Bachelor's degree. I am a full-time artist and musician so I love to be creative and think outside of the box. I am very passionate about the LGBTQ+ community, as I identify as a queer woman and I wish there to be more support and curious learning to be done at my college campus. I love feeling inspired by other members of this community and I want to amplify their voices, find new ways to support them, and carry their stories throughout the campus halls.
